Dear Golfer,

Welcome to the latest Laguna Golf Phuket newsletter. We have had a wonderful first half of 2018, with record numbers of golfers enjoying our golf course.

Thank you for all those golfers who have supported our club competitions this year. Congratulations to our Club Championship 2018 Winners Pimpan Surintarangoul, Sebastian Sawtell and Louise Landgraf.

In May we hosted the 2nd Singha Laguna Phuket Open event. After learning from last year’s scoring, we narrowed the fairways and rolled the greens. This resulted in much more difficult scoring conditions, with a +1 cut mark (compared to -4 last year) and a winning score of -18 (compared to -27 last year). We found the golf course on average 2 strokes harder per round for the professionals. We have kept these new fairway cutting line, albeit with reduced height rough! Due to this, we are seeking the Thailand Golf Association to evaluate the current course ratings and adjust accordingly.

Special mention to our members Pimpan Surintarangoul and Paul Judge, who represented Thailand in the World Finals of the World Corporate Golf Challenge – and WON! As well as our shining star Louise Landgraf who achieved her first international win at IJGA World Stars of Junior Golf last month!

Combined with our increased focus on caddie services this year, we are also encouraging caddies to learn golf. We have confirmed our inaugural Caddies Championship Golf Tournament, to be played on Monday 3rd September! This will be a new Phuket qualifier for the overall Amazing Thailand Caddie Championships. The event is open to caddies from any golf course in the region, with the winners qualifying to the Thailand Finals in Pattaya. Good luck to all involved!

Finally, we will be working hard to complete some important maintenance upgrades between August and November. This includes new and extended tees, plus extensions to the cart path. Please read the maintenance update for further details.

Happy Golfing,

Paul Wilson
