Eight golf tournaments to be held under Sandbox Swing project in Phuket  

The Professional Golf Association of Thailand (Thailand PGA) and All Thailand Golf Tour (ATGT), with the support of Singha Corporation, are going to stage eight golf tournaments at Blue Canyon Country Club and Laguna Golf Phuket from September 13 – October 10.

 

Under the project “Sandbox Swing” of which aim is to promote tourism and attract foreigners to the island province, there will be two ATGT events Singha All Thailand Championship 2021 and Singha Laguna Phuket Open 2021. Among six Thailand PGA events are Singha-SAT Blue Canyon Championship 2021 and Singha-SAT Phuket Classic 2021.

 

Deputy Phuket Governor Phichet Pananong said that the province has been promoting the Phuket Sandbox, the government’s pilot project to welcome fully-vaccinated tourists to the province and with Olympic fever, it has come up with the idea of using sports not only to get people to work out but also to boost economy in the province. Golf is among the sports that have been focused on.

 

“It is in line with the policy of the Sports Authority of Thailand, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports in promoting and hosting golf events because it is a great contributor to economy. Golfers and peoples who have done golf-related activities are potential and likely to stay for a long time, spending money. Golf tourism has proven a boon for revenue generation,” said Pichet on Friday during press conference at Banyan Tree Phuket, presided over by Tourism and Sports minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn.

 

The deputy governor added that hosting these golf tournaments is going to help boost confidence among travelers, generate a cash flow in the province and promote the country as a whole.

 

“We are really happy that both private and government sectors have been working closely to develop and revive the economy in Phuket. It also includes promoting and reviving tourism in the province. I strongly believe that the Sandbox Swing will promote tourism and boost economy after this new wave of Covid-19 outbreak.”

 

Joining the press conference included SAT governor Gongsak Yodmanee, Dr.Supranee Guptasa from National Sports Development Fund; Thanes Phetsuwan,  TAT deputy governor of Marketing; Mr.Paul Wilson, senior assistant vice president/ Group Director of Laguna Golf; Mr.Praphant Asava-aree, Chairman of Blue Canyon Country Club (BCCC);  Thailand PGA president Methee Sudhasna Na Ayutthaya, ATGT commissioner Jakkrapong Thongyai and tournament director Jittisak Tamprasert.

 

The Sandbox Swing will kick off with the Thailand PGA One Day Tour 2021, the 250,000 baht event to take place at Blue Canyon Country Club on September 13, followed by the Singha-SAT TDT Blue Canyon 2021 on September 14-15 and the Singha-SAT Blue Canyon Championship 2021 on September 17-19.

 

The fourth and lucrative event will be the 3 million baht Singha All Thailand Championship at Blue Canyon Country Club on September 23-26. This ATGT event offers a purse of 3 million baht with the winner taking home 4.5 million baht. After that, there will be the Thailand PGA One Day Tour 2021 on September 27, the Singha-SAT TDT Phuket 2021 on September 28-29 and the 2 million baht Singha-SAT Phuket Classic 2021. All these events will be held at Blue Canyon Country Club.

 

The eighth and final event in the Sandbox Swing is the Singha Laguna Phuket Open 2021 at Laguna Golf Phuket. To be staged on October 7-10, the annual tournament offers 3 million baht in prize money.

 

The country’s leading players including Khanchai Tannin, Teerawat Kaewsiribandi, Panuphol Pittyarat and Poom Saksansin have confirmed to join the Sandbox Swing.
